3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-road terrain and provides the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also simpler to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheeler especially those equipped with fabric slings or seat units, which are tightly positioned in the frame and deliver the most efficient geometry and distribution of weight.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are extremely stable, making them an ideal option for off-roading (especially when equipped with a seat unit that is all-terrain or off-road). They often feature oversized front wheels, which can cope well with bumps and kerbs as well as rough ground. Some models even come with a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.

It's worth bearing in mind that 3 wheel buggies-wheel buggies may have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels which means that they can tip over more easily. For really tricky surfaces, look out for an air-filled model, also known as pneumatic tyres, which are designed to handle non-paved tracks and are able to deal with mud, gravel, rock etc. A lot of all-terrain buggies have a swivelling wheel on the front which can be locked for extra stability when you're dealing with rough terrain.

A 3 wheel pushchair sale-wheeled pram is a great choice for those who run and like to walk fast uphill. This is especially true if you plan to attach to a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent example. It has a flat-reclining seat with five-point harnesses, and plenty of storage space to store all your equipment (plus the ability to extend 50+ of the sun hood). It's compact, lightweight 3 wheel pushchair and suitable for babies and can be used in conjunction with car seats or a carrycot. It also handles a bit of light jogging but isn't intended for serious runners.

Weight

If you are seeking a buggy that can tackle terrain that is difficult, you should pick one with large tires. These are made to handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks with ease, while still providing a smooth ride. They are also great for jogging as they have built-in suspension and are easy enough to climb up and down kerbs. However, the trade off is that they are quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the best 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels with an swivel wheel lockable to the front making it extremely maneuverable. It comes with air tyres which require pumping occasionally and it can be used to carry children up to 3. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler loved the shape of the seat, and she found it easy to drive with her three-year-old on board.

Fabric slings are set in the frame and not on top as modular seats. This design delivers a lower centre of gravity that is at the ideal height, making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you cannot overestimate how often you'll do that as new parents!)

Seating

There are a myriad of options for seating in 3 wheelers. The carrycot that comes with it is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfy and cozy lying-flat bed that can be used in and out of the buggy). Older children and toddlers will enjoy the spacious and comfortable seat unit that has adjustable ventilation. It's important to note that these seats don't recline fully however they can be lowered to the lowest position which will give your child plenty of headroom and room to move around.

A sling made of fabric is also available. It is advantageous in that it is positioned inside the frame instead of being placed on top of it as a seat that is modular. This creates a lower center of gravity, with a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this style of seat handled obstacles.

In addition to a large shopping basket, this type of buggy generally has quite useful features, such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, a simple brake pedal and some bright, game-changing lights that pop up from the handlebar and can be positioned directly in front of the occupants to ensure their safety when traversing difficult terrain.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a single buggy that can grow with your family, there's the brand-new sport(tm) which is the first in the world to take a single newborn from day dot and then adjust to take 2 or even 3 after your baby has developed, all within the footprint of a single buggy.

Storage

The 3-wheeled frame is more sturdy and can be moved with one hand. It's also ideal for difficult terrain. However, it means that the basket won't hold the same amount as a 4-wheeled buggy.

A top-quality ATP will feature pneumatic tyres, a cushioned grip for added comfort, and a superb suspension. It is also able to take car seats and a carrycot so you can use it from the moment you are born.

MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frames couldn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're worried about space, be sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded before purchasing.

It's worth looking for an SUV with three wheels that can fit two (or even 3 wheel stroller brands!) seats as your family grows - these are the most efficient of both and will help you save money in the future. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most sought-after. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy and later converted into twin buggies once your baby is walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They are commonly used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said was "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres make it easy to navigate kerbs and cobbles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain their inflation and must be filled regularly. These tyres are more prone to punctures, which is why it is recommended to always carry an repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres can be found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres, but they are still just as robust. You can identify PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also glide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

If you move your hand over the tyres, then you can tell if they are rubber or PU. If it feels like it is sliding then it's a PU. You can also determine whether your buggy is equipped with PU tyres, by sliding them on a flat, clean surface. They should roll smoothly and fit comfortably into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are commonly used in high-performance buggies as well as joggers since they are able to cope with the rough terrain that's common to this type of pushchair. The downside of this is that the foam could compress and make your buggy feel less stable, because it loses its springy feel. You'll also find that these types of tyres can often be noisy as they create a lot of noise as you turn and navigate your way around town.
