There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems as well as an increased demand in the world.

Our service can provide private ADHD testing as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough assessment of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This includes a complete medical history, as well as an assessment using the typical ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your examination, you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial in your case. This will happen during your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your doctor will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to start medication, we can help you the option of titrating your dose to maximize the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This is a process which can take several weeks, and involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication gradually until the appropriate balance is achieved. It's not uncommon to need to adjust several times before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. It's important for parents to participate in this titration process adhd process, and keep an watchful eye on their child's behavior to inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing side effects.

If you decide to go back to NHS treatment you will receive an individual prescription for your medication. You will have to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You'll need to attend six-monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes pulse and blood pressure measurements. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment will usually be conducted through a zoom video call. However, in some circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration program. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dosage and any side effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face to face sessions and PS60 for online or phone video consultations. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also inquire with you about your family background and the impact your adhd titration meaning symptoms impact your life, including any issues with relationships you may be having or other mental health problems that you may be suffering from. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, and it's vital to look into your family's history to determine if you are at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

It is crucial to be honest and open with the clinician during this assessment, as the information they get will be used to determine if your ADHD is in line with the diagnostic criteria. This is an essential step in the process since a failure to do so could result in an inaccurate diagnosis and therefore inappropriate prescribing of medication.

If you decide to be treated for ADHD we'll schedule an appointment to follow-up with a psychiatrist that is skilled in this area. If you'd like to begin treatment immediately you can start treatment at the time of diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to consider the implications of the diagnosis and the options available to you.

If you aren't sure what you would prefer, we suggest that you talk to your GP before booking your private examination as some providers have different policies regarding whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. We also recommend to confirm that your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement that means that once you are discharged from the clinic, you will be sent back to them to get the prescription for the medication.

Medication

Medication is an integral aspect of the treatment process for many who are looking for a private ADHD diagnosis. It can be difficult to get prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs can be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

Asking your GP to refer you to Right to Choose is one way to avoid this (see psychiatry - UK and ADHD 360). This means that you can choose a provider that offers a private assessment and titration adhd medication. This will cut down your waiting time considerably and can be more convenient if you're working and have a busy schedule.

After you've been identified as a candidate for this treatment the doctor you choose will evaluate you and determine whether or not you're required to be titrated on medication. You'll need to complete forms that differ by provider but the most frequent ones are self-reporting forms and medical histories going to your childhood and into adulthood. They will help your physician identify any factors that might suggest you should not take ADHD medication if prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will be a combination stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. They will be carefully tested and monitored to find the best combination for you, taking into consideration any current conditions you suffer from. The titration process can be long and could require several additional appointments before you're stable on your dosage.

Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. Your physician will make sure that you are stable with the medication, record any side effects that you've experienced, and make any needed adjustments to ensure that you remain on a safe dosage. You will also be required to attend a regular health check that may include blood pressure readings, pulse and weight and an annual review.

For some it could be that they are satisfied with their medication and don't need an additional discussion regarding their titration. If you need to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan in more detail it is possible that you'll be referred back to the private clinic who made your initial assessment. In this instance, the titration will be included in the consultation cost. The medication will then be provided through a private prescription. This could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.i-want-great-care-logo.png
