In the box, the S7 Max Ultra is very easy to install. Once you plug it into the outlet, it will prompt you to create a map of your home using sensors and will continue to use this information to avoid obstacles. In our tests it was able to avoid getting stuck on power cords, long curtains and even dog toys. It's not perfect, and occasionally it is stuck on things like tangled cables or odd toys or books.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone application, and this is where you'll find all of the advanced features that set it apart from other robotic vacuums and mops. This includes room-specific cleaning and mopping settings, a schedule planner, mopping and vacuuming power strength selections, and integrations with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa for smart home integration. The S7 Max Ultra's vast feature set allows it to perform everything a standard robot could do and more, but for a fraction of the cost.

The S7 Max Ultra's vacuuming is impressive and it did a excellent job of removing pet hair, dirt, and other debris on both carpet and hard floors. The automatic emptying of the dustbin was flawless in our tests. This was and reassuring. It also boasts 5100 Pa HyperForce power which is significantly more than the 2,500Pa power of the S6MaxV and S7.

The S7 Max Ultra mopping performance was also satisfactory but not the most efficient. It employed microfiber mops that absorb liquids, and sonic vibration technology to scrub floors as high as 3,000 revolutions per minutes. This was slightly more efficient than the X1 Omni circular pads, which rotate at a rate of 180 rotations per minute. The S7 Max Ultra's ReactiveAI 2.0 obstruction recognition system is very good. In our tests, it did not get stuck on anything and stayed clear of power cords, curtains and other potential obstructions all the time.

2. Narwal Freo

Cleaning your floors and vacuuming is one of those chores that people hate but is essential for maintaining a tidy home. It's messy, and often smelly task that can be difficult to finish, since it involves dustbins, dirty water and the necessity to ensure that debris or hair doesn't clog the brushes or traps. This is the reason why mopping and vacuuming machines are so popular. However, many of these machines still require you to manually empty the dust bin and wash and rinse mop pads. This can be a hassle particularly if you have to do this several times in between cleaning sessions. That is why we're happy to see that a number of companies are introducing self-emptying robots to make the whole process much more hassle-free.

The Narwal Freo, the newest addition to the robotic cleaners category is equipped with a variety of enhancements to sensors, software and hardware designed to keep it on the leading edge. The Narwal Freo is also quiet when in suction mode, with the noise level being just 63dB. Despite this, maintenance on the Freo isn't completely hands-free as you'll need to regularly clean various components like the main brush roll and side brushes.

3. Ecovacs Deebot T9+

The Ecovacs Deebot T9+ is available at The Good Guys (for $1279) and is among the most advanced self-emptying robots that mop and vacuum sets. It can map out your home, vacuuming and mopping, while detecting and avoiding obstacles. It can even release an air freshener which is a nice touch.

It is easy to set up, using the app to create an accurate map of your home that it utilizes to clean. The app allows you to choose specific rooms or areas that need to be cleaned. You can also set the time of day you'd like it to begin cleaning, so that your floors are clean while you're away or asleep.

In our tests we found the T9+ to be very adept in navigating obstacles. However, it does have a tendency to take a few errands around the house, which frequently meant that it ended in the exact spot it started cleaning just minutes earlier. It wasn't often but enough to be noticed.

The T9+ comes complete with a selection of accessories, including the robot cleaner, a docking-station and an automatic-emptying station. The mopping unit, as well as a replacement dustbin are sold separately.

The iRobot Combo j7+ robot is a great option for cleaning floors. It's a vacuum and mop, all in one, and it also has obstacle avoidance and home navigation. It can identify your home and clean areas, without crashing into walls or furniture. It's also easy to use the app to designate zones for areas that must be cleaned, or areas that you want it to avoid, as well as establish specific no-mop and no-sweep limits.

IRobot's iAdapt 2.0 technology is a significant part of what makes the Combo J7+ so intelligent. It uses the front camera which is located on top of the majority of its robots to identify hazards, such as power cords or pet waste and to avoid them. iAdapt 2.0 also allows the Combo j7+ robot to determine dirt levels and focus more on the areas.

I found it easy to control the Combo j7+ from the mobile application, which is user-friendly and well-designed. It also integrates with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, so you can tell it to begin cleaning with a voice. The only downside I found was that the Combo j7+'s tiny water tank means you have to refill it frequently or limit the mopping to smaller areas, and run it in eco-mode more frequently.

Another drawback is that the Combo j7+'s dust bin is small and you must empty it manually. The Combo j7+ mop pads are also less effective than other brands. This is a shame, because this robot is otherwise a great machine.
