Model Making In Architecture

The importance of model making in architecture could be thought to have reduced in recent years. With the introduction of new and innovative architecture design technology, is there still a place for model making in architecture? Stanton Williams, director at Stirling Prize-winning practice, Gavin Henderson, believes that it’s more important than ever.

How Does Machine Espresso Work?

The machine espresso is made using precision pressure, and a filter technology that is awe-inspiring to make the coffee you love. But how exactly does it work?

In order to make espresso, hot water is pushed under pressure through finely ground coffee. The process is similar to making drip coffee. However, the pressure is the primary difference.

The Group Head

As the name implies, the group head is where you insert your portafilter when making espresso. It is responsible for dispersing water into the portafilter and then controlling the pressure of the resulting extraction. There are several different types of group head each with its distinct advantages and drawbacks. Some are designed for the stability of temperature while some are designed to handle pre-infusion. Others are made to control the lever. Some have a combination, like the E61. This is a very popular choice for baristas as it provides a variety of benefits in one package.

As you can see in the image above The group head features numerous notches that you can place your portafilter before twisting it with your hands to secure it. A rubber gasket is located inside the notches to help create a seal as you insert your portafilter. The notches on the head allow for a precise position of the portafilter which is necessary for an even extraction.

In addition to allowing you to effortlessly insert your portafilter the group head is also responsible to maintain an even temperature. It does this by circulating hot water through the brew basket and around the portafilter to ensure that it's always at the right temperature to extract. This is important, as even a small difference in temperature can make the difference between good and excellent espresso.

The Pump

The motorized pumps used in rotary espresso machines - l1.prodbx.com - provide the nine atmospheric bar pressure needed for espresso extraction. This differs from manual piston machines which use a lever. This pressure builds up by drawing tap water from a reservoir, and pumping it through a heat exchanger prior being pushed through the ground coffee in the group head.

However, both types of machines are susceptible to degrading due to excessive use and inadequate cleaning. They also increase the complexity of mechanical systems which can result in an expensive price for even the simplest models.

Certain espresso machines can eliminate the pump entirely and employ steam pressure to create espresso. The drawback is that the same boiler that produces steam also increases the temperature of water to boiling, which can lead to excessive extraction. These machines also have to constantly rebuild their pressure between cups. This requires energy and time.

A majority of espresso machines utilize an rotary or a vibration pump. A vibration model uses a rotating disk to generate pressure, while a Rotary model pushes hot coffee through the ground at a rapid speed. Both types of machine can make excellent espresso, however the rotary pumps are quieter, and more durable than vibration pumps.

The Boiler

The boiler is the element that heats water to the ideal temperature to extract. The resulting steam is then transferred to the portafilter which holds the ground espresso and is then pumped down into the cup. During this process the steam generates enough pressure to push the grounds of the coffee through. This results in a crema on top of the espresso. This is a sign of a great espresso.

There are three types of espresso makers, and they differ in the kind of pump they use and the degree of heat that the brew is. There are also different ways in which the brew could be controlled, as well as the size of the cup the maker can create.

The earliest espresso coffee machine machines were steam-based. The earliest espresso machines were steam-type machines. This led to the coffee tasting burnt and bitter. This is why Milanese manufacturers Luigi Bezzerra and Desiderio Pavoni created the modern espresso machine.

The most popular espresso maker is a semi-automatic machine with an electric pump. When people think of espresso machines, they envision these machines. With a semi-automatic machine you must grind the beans and tamp them by hand, but the pump regulates the flow of water and Espresso Machines pressure. This is a fantastic solution that combines human control with mechanised accuracy.

The Filter

Typically, espresso machines utilize filters to separate the grounds of coffee when they pass through the hot water. The filter is also an important part of the temperature control system, as it keeps the machine from overheating.

A filter also improves flavor because it allows for the beans to flower for a longer period of time. This allows the beans to release their flavors, and also allows for better extraction.

It is important to keep in mind that even the finest filter can make a bad cup of coffee. The quality of the beans and the extraction process, remain crucial.

It's here that the magic takes place. This is the reason why espresso tastes so good. The grouphead, also called the brew head, is the place where the portafilter (the container you place the ground coffee in) is located when you're making espresso.

In the steam-driven espresso machine hot water is heated in an airtight tank to create steam, which then pushes the hot water through the grounds at a high pressure. These machines are cheaper and easier for the owner to maintain than pumps-driven models. However, they are not as efficient in their ability to produce the ideal conditions for brewing since they are only operating at 1-1.5 bars of pressure, while the perfect shot requires 9-10 bar.

In recent years, compressed-air-pump-driven commercial espresso machine machines have become more popular. They use an air compressor to push hot water into the grounds and are significantly more portable than electric steam-driven machines.
