How to Unlock your Vehicle

Modern electronic key fobs provide greater functionality and comfort in comparison to traditional manual keys. The batteries will eventually wear out and require replacement. If your Volvo keyfob works only intermittently, the battery may be failing and you'll need to replace it soon.

There are easy steps you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery at your own expense. Choose a clean surface to work on. Then, lay out all the tools you'll need. Then, locate the battery's hole, and then open it with the flathead, a coin, or a similar tool. Next, carefully pry the battery out of its socket by lifting it up on the side that is closest to the key-ring loop. Make sure that you use rubber gloves to avoid damaging the clips or electronic contact surfaces.

Place the new battery in the socket once the old one has been removed. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it's seated in all of the clips. Then, slide the cover back towards the key-ring loop section until it loosens and falls off. Remove the cover to reveal the hidden mechanical key blade. This can be used to unlock your car from the driver's doors if you have lost or damaged your key fob.

How to Start Your Vehicle

Modern vehicles are equipped with keyfobs which do more than just unlock and lock the doors. They can also be used for other useful functions, such as summoning and auto-parking the vehicle. The unlock button can also be used to open the windows during the hot days or to let in fresh air before climbing behind the wheel. If you'd like to do more, the keyfob can be used to activate the ERS that will begin the climate control system of the vehicle and allow it to warm or cool the vehicle to desired temperature settings when the vehicle is in a parking.

How do I replace the battery?

If your key fob no more locks or unlocks your car it is possible that it is time to replace the battery. The battery can be changed using a flathead screwdriver plastic pry bar, or Volvo v70 key other small tools. Locate the small slot that houses the backup or emergency ignition key made of steel. Insert the blade of a screwdriver tool into this slot and gently pull the back of the fob open. After you have opened the fob, locate and remove the CR 2032 3V battery. Place a new battery in its place and connect the fob.

Note: Some older Volvos have a different battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have the thickness of 7/10ths a millimeter less than a CR2032, so you'll need be extremely cautious when replacing your battery.
