An Uber Eats customer has been left both furious and hungry after an apparent glitch on the app resulted in her being delivered an empty box from McDonald's.

Mel had ordered a Double Big Mac and was ready to enjoy her meal when it was delivered to her front door.

However she was bewildered to find the burger box was completely empty.

A frustrated Mel took to Facebook, revealing that a technical error was to blame.

The empty Big Mac box (pictured) was delivered to customer Mel, via Uber Eats, after all food items on the burger were deselected

The Maccas customer posted her receipt and empty box online (pictured)

'There was a glitch in the Uber Eats app and somehow deselected every ingredient,' she wrote.

'Macca's staff must have thought I was cooked and just sent me an empty box'.

The receipt shows the eight ingredients that make up a Double Big Mac were all deselected, including the meat patties and the bun.

All the same, one social media felt she was still dudded out of one ingredient.

'Technically, there should have been one patty in the box. There are two all-beef patties and the instructions only removes one,' they wrote.

In fact, since the customer ordered a Double Big Mac, there should have still been three, as the normal burger has four.

A similar incident happened in March when a customer used a food delivery app to order from a McDonald's at Maylands, in Perth, Yahoo reported.

A pregnant customer opened her breakfast delivery to find nothing but an empty wrapper inside - with an explanatory note attached.

The Maccas store in Perth attached a note (pictured) explaining why they had packed the customer an empty wrapper

'Sausage egg has egg, muffins, sausage and cheese. It's a no for everything so we have just given the wrapping,' it said.

The woman's boyfriend said they never ordered a sausage egg McMuffin.

He said the delivery gave him a good laugh, and posed a photo of the hand-written note taped to the McDonald's bag to social media, 'but hell hath no fury like a pregnant woman'.

In March, another similar incident occurred when Uber Eats delivered a McDonald's order from a store in Sydney's lower North Shore.

Ten-year-old boys having a sleep-over after their rugby league game were left disappointed when they also received empty boxes after another apparent glitch.

Kids were left hangry after their burgers didn't arrive - one was an empty box, another was just bacon (pictured)

The customer, Lorraine, said Uber Eats issued a refund straight away but the kids were hungry after playing a rugby league match and only had ten nuggets and chips delivered to share between them - and Nemanex tropfen Erfahrungsbericht some bacon (pictured the receipt)

The receipt showed a triple cheeseburger was ordered but all items were deselected, with the customers only receiving an empty box.

However, the double cheeseburger that had bacon added, arrived with just bacon in the box, as all the other ingredients had also been deselected.

Customer Lorraine told Daily Mail Australia she contacted Uber Eats straight away.

'The problem was, they wanted me to show them a picture of the missing items - but how can you show a picture of something that never arrived?' she said.

Luckily, after sending a picture of the receipt, Uber refunded her money.

'It's just ridiculous. I understand if there is a problem with the app or even a mistake made on our end - but why do staff pack an empty box - and still charge full-price?'

Daily Mail Australia contacted McDonald's and Uber Eats for comment.
