It became something of a tourist attraction in a sleepy Queensland town thanks to its dramatic transformation from a rot-ravaged 1950s home to a luxury tropical beachside pad.

And now House Rules stars Maddi Carter, 27, and Lloyd Wright, 28, have sold a jewel in the crown of Townsville properties for $520,000 pocketing a pretty $140,000 profit.

The affable pair, now on the hunt for a bigger home in Cairns as they prepare to start a family, are said to be delighted with the sale of the three-bedroom home.

Tropical feel: The decked outdoor areas are conducive to long lazy breakfasts 

The pad which they paid $372,000 is virtually recognisable from the property they originally bought in 2013 and came complete with extensive mould, peeling paint, leaky taps and ramshackle kitchen and wonky floors.

Its transformation during this year's show, which saw the couple shed blood, sweat and tears to build turn it into what resembled a five-star hotel in the beach suburb of Pallarenda (population 818), saw real estate agents Keyes & Co Property excel expectation.

It is believed the home - auctioned with a price tag of $450,000 - went under the hammer on Saturday to an interstate buyer who plans to rent it out.

The marketing blurb for the timber house on tranquil cul-de-sac Wackett Street describe a hessian ceiling in the master bedroom.

There is bamboo flooring throughout, cathedral ceilings in the open plan kitchen, living and dining areas and louvre windows and French doors that open out onto sun-drenched decked area.

Part of the decking overlooks a shady swimming pool and such was the home's turnaround that tourists drove miles stopping traffic to glimpse when the show was airing.

The large high-set timber home comes complete with  stylish bedrooms at the rear of the home and is minutes from the beach.

It also backs onto a reserve inhabited by pythons, dingoes and wild pigs, among other wildlife. 


Maddi told The Courier Mail  the couple will be moving their belongings and American staffy Bronson to Cairns as they consider starting a family.

'We have made the decision to move to Cairns, it's where Lloyd's family lives,' she said.

'We're looking at having kids sooner rather than later, so it's important to us to be near family.'

In August, House Rules contestants Ryan Pusic and Candy Stuart also sold their renovated pad in Emu Plains, Western Australia, for $590,000. through Gumtree.
