Coaxial cables have concentric layers of electrical conductors and insulating material. A dielectric layer made of an insulating material with well-defined electrical characteristics surrounds the wire. A shield layer then surrounds the dielectric layer with metal foil or braided copper mesh. Another layer of insulation surrounds both the inner and outer channels. The first of the two channels controls the coarse (256 steps for the whole range of movement) and the second the fine (256 steps for each coarse step), this gives a 16-bit value range of 65536 steps, what is control cable permitting much greater accuracy for any 16-bit controlled parameter such as Pan or Tilt. AT&T established its first cross-continental coaxial transmission system in 1940. Depending on the carrier technology used and other factors, twisted pair copper wire and optical fiber are alternatives to coaxial cable. Rigid-line coaxial cables are made up of twin copper tubes that function as unbendable pipes. Many of these cables or pairs of coaxial tubes can be placed in a single outer sheathing and, with repeaters, can carry information for a great distance. This connector can be used with telecommunications hardware.

Server computers may use a serial port as a control console for diagnostics, while networking hardware (such as routers and switches) commonly use serial console ports for configuration, diagnostics, and emergency maintenance access.
