1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combination is a great option for a wide range of homes. It is able to vacuum and mop well, has excellent navigation with both GPS and laser sensors and offers a broad range of features and controls accessible via the app. It also has a handy feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require extra attention, and Keep Out zones in areas where you don't wish it to go. It also receives software updates, similar to the other Roomba products, which improve the quality of the product over time.

It's expensive, but it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums ZDNet has evaluated. It's got a huge battery that can best vacuum with mop robot an entire home in less than two hours. While the Anker-owned Eufy has made its name in low-cost robot vacuums it's never offered an all-in-one model that can also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features that can compete against much more expensive models.

The most significant selling point for Eufy with this device is its laser navigation. Previous Eufy devices have constructed a rough map of your home utilizing infrared sensors and bumping into things however the X8's laser mapping technology is more precise. It takes less time to create an extensive map of your home and can store multiple maps. This is great for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner on bare floors. It is able to effortlessly sling debris through the side brushes and into the 400ml dustbin. Its tyres are also very adept at hugging corners and edges even though they're circular. It's not a great kitty litter picker, though our tests have shown it only removes about 90% of the fur from hard floors.

The basic mopping mode utilizes the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. This is ideal for spills that are not serious, but you can't regulate the amount of water that it uses. However, it does an admirable job of removing pet hair, with a better pickup rate than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, powerful appliances. It features a stunning design, excellent navigation and an impressive cleaning power. However, it does have some operational hiccups which prevent it from being considered as the top overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technology that uses a LIDAR to map a room, and a pair 3D scanning cameras for detecting and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). After the room has been defined it is possible to assign virtual no go areas and favorite sections to the robot. You can also manually change cleaning modes, start a manual clean or watch live feeds from the onboard cameras from the main screen.

The RX2 is equipped with excellent sensors that can identify furniture and other obstructions instantly. And its sweeping and suction power are top-notch cleaning up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust on floors with no floor. However, it's not exactly the most efficient robot available. Like many others, it's not a good climber and is prone to problems with things like thresholds made of metal transition strips.

Some people buy a robot vacuum to enjoy the convenience of setting up a schedule using an app and not thinking about it for weeks at an time. It was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface pet hair and litter from our laboratory test samples.

The controls are more basic than the competition's. There's a clean button at the top, and you can either start it using the app or via voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also create a schedule for weekly or daily cleans, set no-go zones, and see its cleaning history. Ion is covered in a smart dark gray plastic that is both attractive and appealing in your home. Its rear dustbin is accessible to empty, and the removal of the filters is also a breeze.

5. Eufy 11S

If you're looking to buy a basic, no-frills robot vacuum for a reasonable price, the Eufy 11S is a great option. It isn't equipped with some of the advanced features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in more expensive models, but if you're not looking for these features, you can save cost with this model.

The robot is easy to install and use. It does not require a smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include the remote control that lets you select between various modes and adjust the suction level. You can also send the robotvac on the schedule of cleaning.

During our tests, the 11S was extremely efficient in removing pet hair and dirt on hard floors and carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to pass under furniture that is low-hanging and other items that bulkier robots could not reach. It was also able to pass over doorway thresholds and transition from one type of floor to another.

The 11S, as with other robots, will also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer says that you can stop this by keeping these objects off the floor and by using the possibility of a cord organizer. It also suggests that you regularly clean the dustbin, replace the filters and wash or change the brushes when required.

Roomba 990 from iRobot

The Roomba is iRobot’s flagship robot vacuum. It's costly but it's a top performer and is arguably the most sophisticated robot vacuum you can buy. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are a wonder to behold. It also comes with more advanced automation features than many competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary lines using its mobile app. Although its app isn't the most responsive and the 980 may spin a bit when moving over cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.

We really like the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember your home's floor plan. It then uses that information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a better robot vacuum than most high-end robots.

The 980's other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes which pick up dirt from carpets and hard floors as well as an ejector brush that moves debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensor assists it in maneuvering between furniture, along edges and on stairs. Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling. And it automatically returns to its base station for easy recharging between sessions. The battery life and bin capacity of the 980 aren't as impressive as those of other robot vacuums. However, it is a reliable and solid machine that can keep floors clean for many hours.
