Lexus Key Replacement - Replacing a Remote Or Fob

Whether you have a conventional Lexus key that switches on the ignition, or a smart key for your car that activates by pressing an arrow, eventually the battery inside your fob will run out. It's simple to replace it with a paperclip. Simply remove the old battery, replace it with the new one (refer to the owner's manual to determine the type of battery you require) and then clip it back into place.

Keys

Replacing a Lexus remote or fob is a complicated process and requires skilled locksmiths who have the right tools and knowledge. Some models require that the transponder chip within the key be reprogrammed in order to work with the immobiliser system of the car. These chips are programmed using different methods, based on the model of lost lexus key. They can be salvaged, however for use with a service key that doesn't require batteries to function.

Immobiliser Systems

An immobiliser is a digital security device that deters thieves from starting your vehicle. It works by sending a signal from the vehicle to the key whenever you attempt to start it. The electronic chip in the key responds by sending a unique code that must match the one of the vehicle to allow it to start. If the codes don't match, the engine will shut down immediately and stop the theft of your car.

Modern smart keys and fobs feature embedded transponder chips that stores security information in a format that can't be easily duplicated. When your key or fob is put into the ignition, it transmits the code to a receiver in the ECU. The ECU examines the code against the one stored in its memory and activates both the fuel system and the ignition circuit if they match. If the codes do not match then the engine will not start, even in the event that the ignition circuit is damaged by a thief.
